About Endurance80

Endurance80 is an 80 km endurance walk  open to Explorer Scouts, Network Scouts, and adult members of The Scout Association.

What route does Endurance80 follow?

In outline: the event starts at Great Missenden, moves east to just beyond Chesham, northwest through the Chilterns towards Tring, turning east at the village of Hastoe.  From there it goes through the wood to Kings Ash and on to Wendover, up Coombe Hill, past Chequers and down into Princes Risborough to the scout HQ.  From there it cuts across country to the Icknield Way at Chinnor which it follows almost to the M40.  Up Beacon Hill and from there to the scout HQ at Stokenchurch.  From there through Radnage and Prestwood to get back to Great Missenden.    You can find the route here.

Who takes part in E80?

Senior40 is open to all Explorers, Network and adult members of the Scout Association.

Can scouts or younger members take?

No.  There are specific events for younger scouting members.  See Endurance 40 and Endurance10.

What size are the teams?

The team must consist of no fewer than 3 walkers and no more than 5 walkers.  If drop-outs during the walk reduce the team size to below three, then the remaining walkers will be teamed up with another team.

What happens when team members drop out?

Walkers will drop out.  When they do, there is a procedure that will be followed to get the walker safely back to Great Missenden.  The preferable location for a drop out is at a checkpoint.  They will then be registered as dropping out and returned to The Misbourne by bus.

So long as the team consists of 3 or more walkers, then it may continue the walk.

If the team drops below 3 walkers, then the team will be held at the checkpoint until it can be combined with another team to form an ad hoc team of 3 or more walkers.

What happens after walkers have returned to The Misbourne?

Once walkers have been registered as returned to The Misbourne, they will be provided with a hot meal (if they want it).  Walkers are free to depart when they are ready, or can camp down in the school until morning.
